Kuala Lumpur's World-Beating Free Flight Bird Park brings the tourist closer to exotic species found in the tropics. Close to the city centre, this is a great excursion

Set in the Lake Gardens area of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s foremost city, is the Bird Park, which boasts the world’s largest walk through “Free Flight” aviaries, a scenic lake for the wading and water species and a host of facilities for the tourist.

Kuala Lumpur's Bird Park, founded in 1991, was officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen Tunku Bainun of Malaysia. It is part of a complex that includes The Orchid and Hibiscus Gardens and the Butterfly House.

The Government Headquarters that used to be located in this area have subsequently moved to the new administrative area in Putrajaia.

Close to KL’s Central Area

For the visitor to central Kuala Lumpur, the Bird Park is a short taxi drive away. Close to the KL Towers Building and not far from the Petronas Towers (ideal for a cooling pit-stop or shopping sortie), it allows the tourist to get a flavour of the rich biodiversity found in the tropical zones.

Walk Through Aviaries

Forget about birds locked in cages. The world’s largest walk through aviary allows the birds inhabit a more naturalistic surrounding with ample space to fly and perch, and where they can find their own niche in this mini-eco system. The tourist can get close enough to enjoy the birds without distressing them.

Access to the large aviaries is through two sets of doors, creating an ”air lock” effect that prevents the birds from escaping.

200 Species on View

The park houses over 3,000 birds which include 200 species. Enjoy exotic species that normally inhabit topical native jungles from China to South America. These include the Malaysian toucan and hornbill, a wide range of parrots and lorikeets, humming birds, cranes, egrets and many other species.

In Parrot World enjoy displays by intelligent birds like the hawks, parrots and macaws who thrive on the stimulation of being trained to perform for the visitors. One can also pose for a photograph with a favourite bird.

There is also a healthy population of Coy Carp in the lake that can be hand fed by the visitors.
